چکیده
Solar water disinfection (SODIS) is an effective and inexpensive microbiological treatment technique, applicable to communities lacking access safely managed drinking services, however, the lower volume of treated per day (< 2.5 L batch) a limitation for conventional SODIS process. To overcome this limitation, continuous-flow solar system was developed tested inactivation Acanthamoeba castellanii cysts Escherichia coli, Salmonella Typhimurium, Enterococcus faecalis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The consisted heater composed cylindrical-parabolic concentrator UV irradiator formed by fresnel-type flat combined with concentrator. Deionized low or high turbidity 1 50 nephelometric unit (NTU) where previously contaminated 108 Cysts/L 105–106 CFU/mL each four bacterial species. Then pumped from heating tank flowing through irradiator, then returning tank, until reaching 45, 55, 60 70 °C. kept at desired temperature, 0.5 10 min. Trophozoites were not recovered (during 20 days incubation) when < NTU exposed °C In NTU, same result obtained after all bacteria achieved 55 min; in water, exposure prototype processes every 90s. has potential be applied as alternative large-scale public supply.

Interaction between waterborne pathogenic bacteria and Acanthamoeba castellanii
Waterborne bacteria cause global public health problems. Francisella tularensis causes tularemia, which is a fatal disease in humans. Pseudomonas aeruginosa is an opportunistic and nosocomial pathogen of humans. Vibrio cholerae O1 and V. cholerae O139 infect only humans and cause epidemic and pandemic cholera. The principal natural reservoirs of these pathogens are largely unknown. To find thei...
متن کاملLipids of Acanthamoeba Castellanii
The lipids of Acanthamoeba castellanii (Neff) consist of 52% neutral lipids and 48% polar lipids. Triglycerides account for 75% and free sterols for 17% of the neutral lipids. The major phospholipids are phosphatidylcholine (45%), phosphatidylethanolamine (33%), phosphatidylserine (10%), a phosphoinositide (6%), and diphosphatidylglycerol (4%). The phosphoinositide is unique in that it contains...
متن کاملAcanthamoeba castellanii STAT Protein
STAT (signal transducers and activators of transcription) proteins are one of the important mediators of phosphotyrosine-regulated signaling in metazoan cells. We described the presence of STAT protein in a unicellular, free-living amoebae with a simple life cycle, Acanthamoeba castellanii. A. castellanii is the only, studied to date, Amoebozoan that does not belong to Mycetozoa but possesses S...
متن کاملPinocytosis in Acanthamoeba Castellanii
The uptake of radioactively labeled albumin, inulin, leucine, and glucose by Acanthamoeba castellanii (Neff strain) was measured. The uptake is linear with time and appears to be continuous under the conditions of these experiments. Uptake is abolished at 0 degrees C. No evidence for saturation of the uptake mechanism was obtained with either albumin or leucine. Each of the four tracer molecule...
متن کاملBatch solar disinfection inactivates oocysts of Cryptosporidium parvum and cysts of Giardia muris in drinking water.
AIM To determine whether batch solar disinfection (SODIS) can be used to inactivate oocysts of Cryptosporidium parvum and cysts of Giardia muris in experimentally contaminated water. METHODS AND RESULTS Suspensions of oocysts and cysts were exposed to simulated global solar irradiation of 830 W m(-2) for different exposure times at a constant temperature of 40 degrees C. Infectivity tests wer...
